around NYC- may 2013

Wednesday, September 10, 2014

Last May was pretty busy, with separate visits from both our families, and we did a lot of typical "New York" sightseeing! It's funny, but a lot of these places we only visit when we have guests, and we hardly ever take photos of them anymore. I'm trying to make a conscious effort to take more this year!

Williamsburg is one of our favorite places to visit in Brooklyn, and only one subway stop from Manhattan. In the summer, they have a food market every Saturday right on the waterfront, with so many amazing food choices and these incredible views of the city to enjoy too. Tom's favorite is the ginormous "cemita" sandwich, which he gets every time! It contains just about every filling you can think of as you can see!

There are also a lot of different smaller shops and boutiques that you don't find anywhere else, and sometimes a flea market. It's a very different atmosphere than Manhattan so we often like to take friends when they visit, since it's probably not in the tourist guide books!

We took a quick trip to Washington DC with friends to check out all the famous landmarks; the White House, Lincoln Memorial, Smithsonian Museums, and the war memorials. DC is much smaller than we imagined but well worth a visit. The museums themselves would take several days to cover- we only managed "Air and Space"!

Whilst we were there, as you can probably tell from these photos, it was so freezing! We jetted around all the sights as quickly as we could. Definitely the coldest trip we've ever taken!
